Welfare, Texas

Welfare is a historic, unincorporated community in west-central Kendall County, located southeast of Waring in the Texas Hill Country. Originally known as Bon Ton or Boyton, the community took the name Welfare when its post office was established in 1880 and later grew with the arrival of the railroad connecting San Antonio and Kerrville.

Today, Welfare retains a quiet rural character surrounded by ranch land, rolling Hill Country terrain, and open countryside. Its location provides access to nearby communities such as Comfort and Boerne while offering the peaceful setting and sense of space that many buyers seek in the Texas Hill Country.
